Etna erupts

Sunday 29 December 2013

Etna dominates Eastern Sicily, especially during eruptions. I've been to Sicily many times, but this was the first time I've seen an eruption myself. Previously I've often missed them by days. To my delight this trip I saw one, although from a fair distance away, from near the village of San Michele di Ganzaria (about 60km distant). Both these photos were taken with a reasonably long lens, about 170mm on a Nikon D7000 (so equivalent to about 250mm on full frame), balanced on the roof of a car for the 8 second night time exposure.
