Yorkshire Dales

Saturday 22 February 2014

We'd never visited the Yorkshire Dales and since we wanted to go and see some friends who'd moved up to Newcastle, we made a detour into the hills on route. Another friend suggested the Malham area was a good place to start and she was definitely right about that. We stayed at the wonderful River House - very friendly, a comfortable room and a proper breakfast.

We walked up around Gordale Scar (waterfall scramble exciting in the wet) and back down the magnificent Malham cove. A whole lot of geology and beautiful landscapes. Plenty of weather too, but that keeps the photos interesting. Whilst driving the next day, we stopped off at Aysgarth Falls, where some adventurous kayakers were having fun on the wild river.

Quintessential Yorkshire - dry stone walls, rolling green and a little weather coming in.
