Solstice in Snowdonia

Saturday 21 June 2014

We went wild camping in Snowdonia for the summer solstice weekend. It was wonderfully hot and sunny and we spent plenty of time swimming. Going to bed and then waking up in the mountains can't be beaten, but it's a heavy load even without photographic gear. When backpacking, lately I've carried a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 16-85mm lens, which as you can see flares somewhat when pointed directly towards the sun - a challenge for any lens. But it's a capable combination that doesn't weigh too much and ultimately gives better results than my tiny Canon S95. It's important to have the camera accessible, so I've got a bag to attach to the waist strap of my rucksack.
