The Copenhagen Interpretation

We spent a special autumn weekend in Copenhagen, somewhere I'd never been before. When travelling somewhere new, there's always the temptation to rush around and try and see all the must-see sights, ticking them off in an ordered fashion. But for me, good experiences - and good photos - are more likely to result from a little less structured approach. We walked a lot, a general plan in mind but allowing for serendipity to take us off course.

This trip I travelled relatively light photographically speaking, taking just the D800 with f/1.8 35 and 85mm lenses - plus the compact Canon S95, which isn't in the same league. I used to shoot prime lenses only all the time with film, but it's not something I have done much with digital. But I really enjoyed it, the constraints of not being able to zoom were strangely liberating and I think the results show the benefit of thinking more about how to make the picture work.
