Black Mountains
Saturday 30 April 2016
We return for a walk in the Black Mountains, with a new variation on a couple of old favourite routes: firstly up Tal Trwynau, continuing over Mynydd Llysiau. Then we headed up to the flat summit of Waun Fach, picking up a well made new path on the way. The new path continued, considerably speeding our journey across the boggy land to the more impressive top of Pen y Gadair Fawr. We continued on the ridge, before dropping down back to farmland at Nantyrychain, with a short walk on little lanes to complete the loop.
It was one of those wonderful days where it's often sunny, but with brief showers that you can see coming from miles away. Our first shower came as we were high - we thought we were about to get damp, but it turned out to be a snow shower! A delightful surprise.
