The Lantern Way, a circular walk around Dursley

Saturday 2 July 2016

The Lantern Way is a 14 mile circular walk around Dursley, launched in 2015 by Dursley Welcome Walkers. We'd walked parts of it before, but never all in one go. As it passes very close to our house, we thought we ought to try it all. There's a helpful leaflet available and some orange stickers on the path to help guide the way. I also took a 1:25000 OS map and found it useful in places, as we took the wrong way briefly a couple of times. Lots of the walk took us out into farmland, lower down than we usually walk and it was good to see the familiar hills from another angle.

We incorporated a stop at the Fox & Hounds in Coaley for refreshments mid-afternoon (which now serves food, unlike when the walk booklet was written), then dinner in The Old Crown, Uley. Finally we enjoyed the sunset on the way back to Dursley via the woods. It's a long walk, but it gives a good variety of countryside.
