Dancing Fog at Cam Peak & Twinberrow Woods

Saturday 29 November 2014

We've had a lot of foggy mornings this week that became sunny days, but I haven't had a chance to photograph them, which is a shame as it can make for really atmospheric photos, especially of woodlands. Today started off foggy again and as the sun started burning through mid-morning we headed for Cam Peak, near Dursley. I thought I'd left it too late, as the sunshine was bright and really warm by the time we'd reached the steep summit. At least there was still a little fog covering Dursley, which looked rather pretty. But then to my surprise the fog started coming back towards the hills, dancing over us as we walked along Cam Long Down.

Once home, we were completely hidden in thick fog again. Later in the afternoon I noticed the sun breaking through once more, so I headed back out, this time to Twinberrow Woods. There are less leaves now than my last visit two weeks ago. It still feels autumnal, but darker now, edging closer towards winter, or at least some mild version of it. Again the fog came and went more than once, rapidly changing the character of the woods. It's unusual weather, but I enjoyed being out in it and it makes for good photos.
