The Lake District

Monday 4 May 2015

It's been some years since I visited the Lake District - too long, but the world is big. I was excited to return and especially to explore some of the northern fells I'd only seen in the distance before. The weather forecast was mixed and we certainly got a little of everything, from sleety snow in gales on Skiddaw summit, through to pleasant sunshine on Robinson, cloud and drizzle above Ullswater, then downright heavy rain. Fortunately we managed to enjoy a tasty English breakfast during the worst of the rain and with the right clothing we enjoyed four days mainly out on the hills. A pleasure to return - hopefully it won't be so long until next time.

Photographically, everything has come out rather grey. Well, that reflects the reality of this particular long weekend. It's still beautiful to me and as the Lake District is so distant I don't have the luxury of being able to wait for perfect weather. Indeed, there's a challenge to try and find strong images whatever the weather is doing.
