A caving trip through Ogof Cnwc to Daren Cilau

Saturday 25 April 2015

I go caving quite often, but rarely take a camera. Caves are a hard, harsh place to visit without taking a camera - and normally taking photos isn't the objective for the trip anyway. Today was special though, a big trip under the Brecon Beacons - Ogof Cnwc (Price's Dig) to Daren Cilau - and the first time I'd visited this cave system. This took us just over six hours underground, including 1 hour 10 minutes in Daren's infamous entrance crawl, which felt very long when tired, but not overly difficult. The photos give a false impression of the trip, highlighting only on the pretty bits and not capturing the vast passageways filled with slippy boulders and the chain ladders that make some of the climbs much easier.

As with Reservoir Hole, these photos were taken handheld on my Canon S95, lit by our helmet lights, which doesn't give the best quality. One day perhaps I'll go for a photo trip and try and get some better pictures.
