Sicilian Autumn

Friday 31 October 2014

The fierce summer heat has finally left Sicily, although it was nearing 30°C last week. It's not like a UK autumn though, with temperatures in the low 20s, but we were dodging thunderstorms as we explored some more of south eastern Sicily and revisited a couple of old favourite places. I really enjoy travel that is a balance between old and new, the familiar and exploration.

I was particularly enchanted by the ruins of Noto Antica, a town destroyed by the earthquake of 1693. In deciding to move the town, much was left behind, civilisation reclaimed by nature. Then there was the beautiful canyon of Cava d'Ispica, cool enough for a comfortable walk at this time of year, with much evidence of inhabitants long past.

Since the combination of two prime lenses, the 35 and 85mm, had worked so well in Copenhagen, that's all I took this time. Whilst there were moments I could have used a wider or longer lens, I'm really pleased with what I captured.
