Still white on Pen Y Fan

Friday 6 February 2015

This year has been much better than last for winter walking. In the hills of the Brecon Beacons, the snow has remained on the high ground for the last few weeks and I've been fortunate enough to enjoy it on walks and camping.

Today I again went to Pen Y Fan, this time on a longer route from near Talybont reservoir - about 18km and 1000m climbing. There were strong winds, clouds and sunshine, plenty of snow and ice. A proper winter walk and a most memorable day. We wore crampons much of the day, which made progress much safer and faster.
